The project references fragility, isolation, gradual decay, inevitable death and transformational processes. The subjects are found dead, broken and imperfect, already beginning a state of decay before any image making takes place. Over a matter of weeks the subjects can turn into literal dust. The image making process merges the foreground, subject and background into a visually compressed space. Color, texture and lighting are of immense importance, creating the connective tissue between subject and background, and establishing the images as both visual document and transformational process.
